Update

A little update on what I have done with all the stuff I received from Stacey that was her Grandma's. 

I have gone through all the boxes of stuff, sold lots of fabric in our "Yard Sale Room".  Still have lots of fabric.  I used several, several yards of fabric to cut kits out for the kids at school to make Exploding Pineapple Quilts.  I cut enough fabric to make 18 quilts.  I did not get all the background fabric cut out yet, but there is still enough to do that.  Was glad to have all that fabric to cut the kits for the kids.

I found several quilt tops that are in various stages...blocks, partially completed tops, tops, applique' pieces cut out and ready to fuse to background fabric, and one quilt finished.  I took pictures of most of it.  Was going to list it on ebay, but the pictures would not load, so did not get them posted.  Several people said I needed to finish the quilts, but I have so many of my own quilts to finish.  I don't know if I will ever get mine done, so how can I finish those, too.  Then there always seems to be another quilt to start and/or work on.  Too many UFOs! 

Still working on Stacey's quilt.  It is not that hard to do, just doing it by hand takes some time.  I really haven't worked on it much.  I could probably finish it in a couple of nights working on it.  I have set a goal to finish it and take it to her this summer.

A year later...

Well, it has been over a year since I started this blog and going through Wannetta's crafting/quilting supplies.  I feel like I am not any closer to being finished with it.  Looking at my "Goals", I have not done very many of them.  I have gone through a LOT of fabric.  I have washed, ironed, measured, folded, and priced many, many pieces.  We have sold a lot out of the shop.  I washed 2 loads today.  But, I still have lots to go.  She stored a lot of her fabric in crates.  I have gone through many of them, but am only about half way through.  Most of them has about 3 loads of laundry in each one...she packed them tight!  The one I did today only had 2 loads.  There are duck fabrics and Halloween fabrics in it.  My friend, Lori, has been helping me.  She has taken fabric home to iron for me, or she come by the shop and irons for awhile.  She is fast with her ironing!  She had done a whole, large laundry basket full for me last month, or the month before.  I finally got to it yesterday and priced it all.  Just in time for Third Saturday Shoppers to come and purchase.  I have kept some of the fabric...the stuff I just couldn't live without!
I did not get the quilt machine set up.  We don't have room for it right now.  I have found a few quilts I want to finish.  I found a Spider Web quilt that Wannetta paper pieced.  The magazine that she got the pattern out of was still with it.  I had to fix a few blocks and make a few blocks, but it is ready for the borders to go on.  I also need to take all the paper off the back sometime.
I have not finished Stacey's Cathedral Window quilt.  I have sewn the two pieces together, but have not added the "window" pieces in yet.  I really need to get that done and get it to her.
I have not really gotten rid of anything.  I thought yesterday that I need to throw a few magazines away each week.  I have them in the "Yard Sale" room, but no one is buying them.  I'm sure they think they have enough magazines, like me.  Maybe I should take some pictures and sell them on e-bay.  Wonder if anyone would want them?  Maybe when I get home from Moldova in a couple of weeks.
Well, it is time to get ready to go to the shop.  Mary is not coming in today, so I can't be late.

A year or so ago, one of my former students contacted me over Facebook and asked if I wanted to buy her Grandmother's quilting machine.  I told her I had a quilting machine, but might know someone who might want it.  I did not hear back from her until a couple of months ago.  We talked on the phone and she wanted me to buy, not only the quilting machine, but also all her Grandmother's quilting stuff.  I asked her how much she wanted for it and we agreed upon a price.  Last weekend, I went to pick everything up.  My husband took his truck and borrowed my Dad's trailer to haul everything back. 

Her Grandmaother's name was Wannetta.  That is reason for the title of this blog.  Why I did this, I have no idea!  My car was loaded with milk crates filled with fabric and I also took fabric out of crates and stuffed in the nooks and crannies.  We unloaded everything in what will be my quilt shop later this summer.  There is a bathroom, which was also a laundry room and we put all the boxes, tubs, and crates in there.  The table for the quilt machine is in the garage, so I do not have a picture of it.  The following pictures are what we brought back.

This is a cabinet that she did not want.  Her Grandmother must have used it for sewing because she called it a sewing cabinet.  I will probably use in somewhere in the shop.  Beside it is a bolt of fabric I found in the bottom of it when we got home.  I didn't even look in the bottom of the cabinet while I was there.

On the floor is the quilt machine.  It is a small one.  I have not even plugged it in to see if it works yet.  It is sitting under a sewing machine in a cabinet.  That was not part of the original deal and Stacey said she found it upstairs in the same room as the quilting machine.  Oh, by the way, the quilt machine was in a room, upstairs.  It is a 12 foot table.  It had to go out the window to get it out of there.  Stacey, her boyfriend, her brother,  two of her brother's friends, and I got it out.  Three of them stood in the back of one friend's pick-up and we handed it out the window to them.  I said that we should have a picture of this before we started.  We didn't have an extra hand to take any pictures.  I'm sure the neighbors got a good laugh at us.  By the way, I don't know if the sewing machine works or not.  It is a Spartan (I think) by Singer.  {I may try it out tomorrow}

You can see that the boxes are in the back, then the tubs, and then the crates.  There is a cutting mat on top.

Here are the pantos that she had and how she stored them.

This is on the back porch (yes, it is enclosed).  There are about 4 rolls of some kind of fabric in the corner.  The boxes and some of the crates contain books.  The top, white crate has a bobbin winder and some misc. stuff.  I don't know how many books or what they are, because they had them boxed up before I got there.

 Here are some of the magazines that I pulled out of one crate.  The crate they come out of is the picture below.

This is what is still left in my car.  All this stuff came out of crates and was stuffed in every and any space I could find.  There were 3 irons in this stuff.  I haven't tried them to see if they work or not yet.  There are some unfinished quilts in this stuff.  The orange pieces toward the front are fan blocks.  There are 50 blocks that are finished, but not sewn together.  There are some star blocks that are almost finished and a quilt top.  There are also some Yo-yo's in there, too.

Stacey asked me if I would finish a quilt her Grandmother was working on when she passed away.  She told me she didn't know the name of it, but was pretty sure it had to be done by hand.  I told her I would be honored to finish it for her.  When she got it out, I was surprised to see what it was.  It is almost finished.  I will not tell you what the pattern is.  I will post pictures of it when I get it out.   It is in two pieces, which needs to be sewn together and then finished.  She said her Grandmother worked on it when she first got sick and she remembered her working on it all the time.  I'm sure Stacey is happy with all her extra space now that all her Grandmother's quilting stuff is out of the way.  Stacey got her Grandmother's house and is living there now.

My Goals:
1.  Inventory fabric and all quilting items.
2.  Get rid of stuff I can not and will not use...ASAP!
3.  Finish tops Wannetta started.
4.  Make quilts for charity.
5.  Sell fabric yardage in my shop as "Yard sale" items or on e-bay.
6.  Set up the quilting machine to rent to quilters in my shop.
